Cucunci are the fruit of the Sicilian caper plant, larger and fleshier than capers, which are the buds of the same plant. Here they are preserved in oil.

Their flavour is bold and slightly sharp. Serve them with aperitifs, in a salad, with raw fish or a plate of cold meats.
